Program Description
Program Courses
Academic Program
The core curriculum is outlined by the BC Ministry of Education, and appropriate enrichment programs are provided at all levels. In Grades 8 to 10, all students must take Mathematics, Science, English, French or Spanish or Mandarin, Social Studies, Physical Education, plus two electives. In Grades 11 and 12, programs are designed according to each student's individual interests and post-secondary goals.

Enriched Programs
Streamed courses in English, Mathematics, and French promote accelerated completion of the core curriculum. Many students thus obtain both Grade 11 and Grade 12 credits in their Grade 11 year. A full range of Advanced Placement courses is also offered.

Extracurricular Strengths
Competitive sports at St. George's include rugby, soccer, ice and field hockey, basketball, badminton, tennis, cricket, ultimate, swimming, water polo, rowing, cross-country running, track and field, golf, volleyball, and triathlon. Several other sports are offered on a recreational basis. A sequential Outdoor Education program under the coordination of a full-time Director, promotes development of lifelong outdoors skills. The fine and performing arts are equally well represented through performances by our nationally honoured concert bands and art exhibits from a vibrant Visual Arts Program. St. George's theatre-style auditorium hosts three major dramatic productions each year. More than 20 clubs meet regularly, with eager participation in the Duke of Edinburgh program (focussing on wilderness and service initiatives) and the Global Perspectives and Community Service Club (more than 150 members).

The School Year
Three terms over a 36-week school year:
Term 1: September - November
Term 2: December - February
Term 3: March - June

Students sit a formal final exam in June. Mid-term assessments are also tabulated in Terms 1 and 3, and there is a mid-year marks report (early February) for those applying to US colleges. Virtually all courses are of full-year duration. Class periods in the Senior School are 75 minutes, and each class meets five times in a two-week cycle. No classes exceed 26 students, and most senior electives average 12 to 20 students.
